Athlete of the Week: Southeast's Shannon Hamilton

PALMYRA — Northeast Ohio weather hasn’t given many people a chance to see it yet, but Southeast senior pitcher Shannon Hamilton is ready to end her prep career on a very high note.

Of course, to get to the next level, the defending Portage Trail Conference Metro Division Co-Player of the Year has had to focus on the finer points on an already sparkling resume.

Mommy Goes to Work: A Gabriella Story by Jennifer Gunnoe

A big congrats goes out to Jennifer Gunnoe for being published!

Looks like a great read, and I'm sure many of our classmates will want to hear the good news.

Make sure to pick up a copy and make sure to let Jennifer know how proud we all are of her!

Southeast rallies for 'trooper' T-shirts honor injured student

Many Southeast High School students have found a way to visually show their support for a "super trooper" who was struck by an alleged drunk driver.

Mindy Cooper, 17, of Diamond, was struck by an alleged drunk driver Oct. 31 while walking on S.R. 225 near Newton Falls Road. The Southeast High School junior was walking to a Halloween party with a friend.

The driver, Larry C. Barkley, 59, of 9479 Cableline Drive, Diamond, was driving a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, according to the Ravenna Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol

Dunn steps down as Southeast boys basketball coach

PALMYRA -- For much of the past 13 seasons, Bob Dunn has been the face of the Southeast Pirates boys basketball program. However, a recent promotion at the school will mean changes for the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division squad.

With the recent retirement of Southeast High School principal Greg Newell, Dunn -- already the school's assistant principal -- recently announced his decision to step down as head coach and assume the position of interim principal at Southeast.

Southeast Pirates Baseball 2008

I found this article this morning in the Wretched Courier. Just a quick blurb on the 2008 Southeast Pirates High School baseball team.

Rumble On The Ridge

Heading down to Rumble On The Ridge this weekend in Adena, Ohio. I'll be a first time rider at this event, but I hear last year they had something like 4k bikes on the trails.

I think I'm driving down Friday after work, and I'll camp and ride on Saturday.

Get a hold of me if you're thinking of going, we can meet up somewhere. Pretty sure that 4 or 5 of my buddies are also going, so we'll have a good group, and if you know me, definitely good eats.

Ryan Groves - Video on YouTube

Ryan Groves, a 1999 graduate of Southeast High School from Charlestown Township, Ohio, lost his left leg above the knee and suffered a critical injury to his right leg in October 2004 when a rocket struck near his Humvee in Iraq.

YouTube

Ok, so I set up a filter so users can embed YouTube and Google Videos in their blogs. Might come in handy. I know I am a YouTube junkie, and there are a few videos about Southeast on YouTube, I'll have to look around and see what I can find. Feel free to post yours too.

Website improvements

The Japanese have a term called "Kaizen", which literally means "constant improvement". Well, I've added a couple features this morning that hopefully you guys will appreciate.

The first thing was to allow you to customize your profile a little more. That's the page people get to when they click your username. You'll see that if you click your username that there is a little link that says "Create Profile". I know it's not very advance, but you can attach files, or images to it, and it's a poor-man's way of adding images to your profile.
